Our new favourite is Te Ara Pekapeka Bridge and the lovely landscaped park under the bridge on the Peacock side.

Unfortunately the tracks through the bush where I live were shut due to Kauri dieback and as they started to be opened again the flood of two years ago damaged them.

👍💯 One of the UPSIDES of the Christchurch EQ's has been the re-claiming of the Avon River for everyone. Terrible for those who lost their homes, but in most cases their trees remain & the City Council, using feedback & consultation from citizens, Iwi, stakeholders (like rowing clubs) have embarked on several projects to turn the area into a cycle & walkway "from the city to the sea" at New Brighton. Personally, even before they did anything I have walked that route using stop banks & munted-potholed former streets & selfishly liked the sparse numbers of cyclists & walkers etc. However it is indeed a treasure currently being improved by native plantings, pedestrian bridges, improved cycle/walking surfaces & brilliant for watching swan signets, ducklings, Cormorants, & various other birdlife using the corridor of the river (saw a Penguin once who must have swum nearly into the city centre from the sea) , including school rowing training & individual kayaks just going for a paddle.
