Dr Bex,

I think this such a balls up that keeping up the pressure from more and more people will have some of these changes reversed. It will only be a partial reversal but probably making a special effort over the next weeks.

Maybe Penny Simmons can lose her ministerial warrant.

I see an email to my MP (not that he'd care. He's National) and an OIA request to ask where the Minister got the examples of carers going to a manicure from. To me it just sounds like another beneficiaries bashing this govt is very fond of.

This government is cruel and nasty. Taking money from our most vulnerable and their families. Families do so much unpaid labour to take care of their disabled family members, it is cruel to deny them some respite.

The cruelty to both disabled people and families is breathtaking. Yet institutions and residential care are not being pinged at all - despite being 50% of the spend!

Is the residential care privately owned? If they are privately owned, it is likely that they are national Party donors, and therefore not going to be pinged

I wonder if the government would look at this differently if they were told that I’ve asked number of these families would put the person into full-time care because it is too much That would cost the government a great deal more. They only seem to understand the dollars and cents side of the argument.

The answer is...it depends. IHC for example is an independent charity, but isn't privately owned. Residential care is far more expensive than other options.

When there is no respite, sometimes the carers break and do bad things because they cannot cope any more. If that happens, the blood will be on the hands of this government.

I knew a family that this happened to , not because of a disability, but because of someone was dying of cancer It was horrific.
