100% this too - its a choice not to have money for education and health!

Thank you for this summary, a tough read, yet they persist. I know the 'Hon' title comes with their office but it seems so wrong for them to have.

I found suitable posters on the PSA site, and have printed them off, covered them with plastic and attached fly swat handles and come rain, high wind, lightning, whatever, I and my also retired nurse friend will be setting off to join the rally in our nearest town. Government denial of nurses' concerns about safe workloads and workplaces has been going on for far too long. I am also protesting on behalf of my neighbour who is a classroom support worker - they had their pay equity claim tossed out in May. My neighbour assists autistic children - a role that requires patience in the bucketload and I take my hat off to her.

$12billion on Defence (because the money had to be found) did they ask the people where they'd rather have this money spent. I'd hazard a guess they certainly wouldn't have thought 5 helicopters at $400 million each was a good use of money. $1.2 billion to kickstart some RONS that barely provide any cost benefit ( even though they modified the BCR method to calculate a more favourable cost benefit ratio which even after this fudge looks like a very poor return on investment. This is so shoddy, this government just fucking sucks ( sorry about the language but I'm livid ).

✔️👏 Saw your thread on Bluesky - devastating when all put together 😱

🙋 Sadly the weather events got in the way locally, but I spent some of my time making a submission (while we are still allowed 🥺) against the farrowing crates for pigs being extended from 2025 as planned, until 2035 🤬

⁉️ Closes at 5pm TODAY THURS 23RD so if you are home for the weather, being on strike, quaratining for measles, unemployed, retired or WHATEVER REASON YOU HAVE 5 MINS, go to the SPCA website for a background of the issues & link to submit 🤷🤗 (most of use who care about human health also care about animal welfare 💯)

This morning I listened to a very interesting Youtube presentation by Professor of political science and women's studies, Joan Tronto. She would challenge the notion that democracy must focus on economics. Instead, she believes democracy is about the allocation of responsibilities. Now that shift of focus is something I can agree with. Just consider how this current coalition is so intent on telling us these are times of austerity and everyone involved in providing social services, health, education, etc must pull in their belts and work harder! This whilst the wealthy are given tax breaks and we "invest" in military hardware. I would love to see all the people who have been involved or affected or are supportive of this week's protests, coming together to promote the thought that democracy is indeed essentially the allocation of responsibilities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttW-6Rib2TM
